NRL Indigenous Round

24 May 2019 by Michael Asensio

It is NRL Indigenous round this weekend and there are a range of activities across NRL matches that highlight the significant contribution that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people make in rugby league, both on and off the field.
Throughout the round, the NRL also highlights key social issues that impact on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander
people.

Did you know that people of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander background represent

12% of NRL players.

24% of Australian Kangaroos

3% of the Australian population.

Our U6’s and U7’s will be at Lottoland (Brookvale Oval) tonight wearing their Cubs Indigenous jerseys with pride. Look out for them on TV as they will be forming a guard of honour for the first grade teams as they run onto the field for the second half.

It’s also timely to remind everyone that our 2019 jersey design pays tribute to the Durramurragal people, who lived in the Ku-ring-gai area for thousands of years.

The artwork also tells the story of the Ku-ring-gai Cubs.

Our teams are represented by the circles, while our players, coaches and parents are represented by the symbols around the circles. The Ku-ring-gai Cubs will always be a place where children, parents, coaches and volunteers can come together to connect, communicate, train and play our great game of rugby league.

Good luck to all teams….enjoy the footy….. and go Cubs go!
